The scheme is to provide scholarship to meritorious girls to support them in their studies. The objective of the scholarship is to motivate and support meritorious and needy girl students who have been scoring good marks and want to pursue career in science but are not able to do so due to lack of resources and other constraints (poor family background and costly science stream studies).

The scholarship is known as “Smt. Kusum & Shri Grish Sarup Saxena Smarak Chhatravritti”.

The criteria of selection are as under:

i. Trend of score of marks in previous examinations;
ii. Financial background;
iii. The child's aspiration to contribute to nation building and her future goals;
iv. Aspiration such as careerist in science will have an edge.
